Hemp
Hemp is a natural fiber harvested from the cannabis plant. As a crop, hemp is low maintenance, growing easily in many climates, requiring very little water, and no pesticides. The hemp plant produces very long, strong fibers with low environmental impact.
Recycled Polyester
While this material is a synthetic fiber, it is made from 100% post-consumer plastics that are shredded and recycled through a mechanical process that avoids the addition of chemicals. It conserves resources, uses less water, uses less energy, and produces fewer emissions than virgin polyester.
Organic Cotton
Organic cotton is a type of cotton that is healthier for people and the planet. Organic cotton fiber is grown and processed according to organic farming standards, which do not allow the use of toxic chemicals or genetically modified organisms. It prevents pollution and protects the health of soil and water bodies, which is good for biodiversity.
Wool
Wool is a natural, renewable and biodegradable fibre, renowned for its warmth. The wool fibres we use are all Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certified, which ensures good animal husbandry practices and that the wool is harvested without de-tailing. Wool garments are naturally stain and wrinkle resistant and are easy to care for, requiring less frequent washing.
Linen
Linen is a natural fiber harvested from the flax plant. Linen fibers are antimicrobial, long-lasting, and naturally low-impact. Linen clothing is cool, perfect for the warmer months, but darker colors can fade if left in the sun. Linen gets softer with use and is less prone to wrinkling, creating that lived-in effect we love - perfect for classic clothing that can be worn year after year!
TENCEL
TENCEL is a man-made fiber made from cellulose - the same as paper. The Tencel we use is made from sustainably managed forests and does not contribute to deforestation. It is also produced using a closed-loop process that reuses 99% of chemicals and recycles water. This makes it a much lower-impact alternative than other fibers! Clothes made from Tencel are soft, breathable, and can be recycled or biodegraded at the end of their life.
You should know…
At Myragie we do not use some materials that are known to have a particularly negative impact on the environment and/or society, for example we do not use any fur, angora wool or exotic animal skins in our collections.
Every season we carefully evaluate our use of materials and how our clothing can have a more positive impact on people and the planet. Our goal is to only use materials with a low environmental impact and to contribute to a circular materials economy by increasing the use of recycled and regenerated fibers. Our recycled fabrics may have small imperfections and other fibers that happen to be caught in the recycling process. We are actively looking to replace some materials with alternatives that are proven to work better.
